Who are we?

The Ensemble Vocal Aziliz is an equal-voice ensemble counting approximately twenty young women aged between 18 and 35. Based in Brussels, it was founded in 2020 by Camille Livyns and is led by Judith Sepulchre and Emma Barton-Smith.
Its repertoire consists of both a cappella and accompanied vocal works (piano, organ, basso continuo, string ensemble...) ranging from the Renaissance to the Contemporary period.
The mission of the Ensemble Vocal Aziliz is to revive the rare choral pieces of our cultural heritage that were written for women's voices, but also to bring into the light new compositions, by regularly collaborating with contemporary composers such as Claudio Ferrara, Aurélien Hallopeau, Alexandros Gkonis and Philippe Perreaux.
Qui sommes-nous?

L’Ensemble Vocal Aziliz est un ensemble à voix égales, comprenant une vingtaine de jeunes femmes qui ont entre 18 et 35 ans. Basé à Bruxelles, il a été créé en 2020 par Camille Livyns et est dirigé par Judith Sepulchre et Emma Barton-Smith.
Son répertoire se compose d'œuvres vocales a cappella et accompagnées (piano, orgue, basse continue, ensemble à cordes...) allant de la Renaissance à la période contemporaine.
L’Ensemble Vocal Aziliz a pour mission de faire revivre les rares pièces chorales de notre héritage culturel écrites pour voix de femmes, mais aussi de faire émerger de nouvelles oeuvres en collaborant régulièrement avec des compositeurs contemporains tels que Claudio Ferrara, Aurélien Hallopeau, Alexandros Gkonis et Philippe Perreaux.
Wie zijn wij?

Het Ensemble Vocal Aziliz bestaat uit ongeveer twintig jonge vrouwen tussen 18 en 35 jaar. Het ensemble werd in 2020 door Camille Livyns opgericht en wordt door Judith Sepulchre en Emma Barton-Smith geleid.
Het repertoire bestaat uit zowel a cappella als begeleide vocale werken (piano, orgel, basso continuo, strijkerensemble...) en rijkt van de Renaissance tot in het hedendaagse repertoire.
De missie van het Ensemble Vocal Aziliz is om de schaarse koorwerken voor vrouwenstemmen uit ons cultureel erfgoed te doen herleven. Door regelmatig samen te werken met hedendaagse componisten zoals Claudio Ferrara, Aurélien Hallopeau, Alexandros Gkonis en Philippe Perreaux tracht het ensemble om ook nieuwe vocale werken aan het licht te brengen.

Judith Sepulchre is a graduate of the Conservatory of Maastricht (2016), where she completed a bachelor's degree in opera singing with Axel Everaert, and of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (2019), where she obtained a master's degree in baroque singing, and where she studied with professors Lenie van den Heuvel, Pascal Bertin, Peter Kooij, Robin Blaze and Dorothee Mields. She also holds a master's degree in choral conducting from IMEP (Namur 2022), where she studied with Cyril Englebert and Benoît Giaux.
Judith has sung with several ensembles, including the Brussels Operette Theater, Ribattuta Musica, Meesters en Gezellen, the Dutch Radio Choir, the Europäisches Hanse-Ensemble and the Bach Choir and Orchestra of The Netherlands.
Co-leader of the Ensemble Vocal Aziliz with Emma Barton-Smith, she is also vocal coach to the Petits Chanteurs de Bruxelles and conducts their branch in the North of Brussels.

Judith Sepulchre est diplômée du Conservatoire de Maastricht (2016), où elle a suivi un bachelier en chant lyrique avec Axel Everaert, ainsi que du Conservatoire Royal de La Haye (2019), où elle a obtenu un master en chant baroque, et où elle a étudié avec les professeurs Lenie van den Heuvel, Pascal Bertin, Peter Kooij, Robin Blaze et Dorothee Mields. Elle est également titulaire d'un master en direction de chœur de l'IMEP (Namur 2022), où elle a étudié avec Cyril Englebert.

Judith Sepulchre is afgestudeerd aan het Conservatorium van Maastricht (2016), waar ze een bachelor in operazang behaalde bij Axel Everaert, en aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Den Haag (2019), waar ze een master in barokzang behaalde. Ze studeerde er bij professoren Lenie van den Heuvel, Pascal Bertin, Peter Kooij, Robin Blaze en Dorothee Mields. Ze heeft ook een master in koordirectie van het IMEP (Namen 2022), waar ze studeerde bij Cyril Englebert.

Judith heeft met verschillende ensembles gezongen, waaronder het Brussels Operette Theater, Ribattuta Musica, Meesters en Gezellen, het Nederlands Radiokoor, het Europäisches Hanse-Ensemble, en het Bachkoor en orkest van Nederland.

Of British and Hong Kong origin, Emma is currently studying classical singing with Michèle Losier at the Antwerp Conservatory.
She is regularly sollicited to sing as a soprano soloist, more recently with Brussels Chamber Choir, Cantus Firmus, Minimes Cantat, and Ensemble Vocal Aziliz. On stage, she has played the roles of Servilia (Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito) and Annina (Verdi's La Traviata). In March 2026, she will perform the role of Mélisande (Debussy's Pélleas et Mélisande) in Brussels.
As well as classical singing, Emma began conducting choirs in early 2023 and is studying conducting with Luc Anthonis at her current conservatory.
She currently conducts the choirs Nuovo Marco, La Psalette, Brussels Chorismatic and, since this year, in collaboration with Judith Sepulchre, the Ensemble Vocal Aziliz.

D’origine anglaise et hongkongaise, Emma suit actuellement des études de chant classique chez Michèle Losier au conservatoire d’Anvers.
Elle se trouve régulièrement sollicitée en tant que soliste soprano, plus récemment avec le Brussels Chamber Choir, Cantus Firmus, Minimes Cantat, et l’Ensemble vocal Aziliz. Sur scène, elle a joué les rôles de Servilia (La Clemenza di Tito de Mozart) et d’Annina (La Traviata de Verdi). En mars 2026, elle se produira dans le rôle de Mélisande (Pélleas et Mélisande de Debussy) à Bruxelles.
Au-delà du chant, Emma s’est lancée dans la direction de chœur début 2023 et se forme chez Luc Anthonis à son conservatoire actuel.
Elle dirige en ce moment les chorales Nuovo Marco, La Psalette, Brussels Chorismatic et depuis cette année en collaboration avec Judith Sepulchre, l’Ensemble Vocal Aziliz.

Emma is van Engelse en Hongkongse afkomst en studeert momenteel klassieke zang bij Michèle Losier aan het conservatorium van Antwerpen.
Ze wordt regelmatig gevraagd als sopraansoliste, recentelijk nog bij het Brussels Chamber Choir, Cantus Firmus, Minimes Cantat en het Ensemble Vocal Aziliz. Op het podium speelde ze de rollen van Servilia (La Clemenza di Tito van Mozart) en Annina (La Traviata van Verdi). In maart 2026 zal ze in Brussel te zien zijn in de rol van Mélisande (Pélleas et Mélisande van Debussy).
Naast zingen is Emma begin 2023 begonnen met koordirectie en volgt ze een opleiding bij Luc Anthonis aan haar huidige conservatorium.
Momenteel dirigeert ze de koren Nuovo Marco, La Psalette, Brussels Chorismatic en sinds dit jaar, in samenwerking met Judith Sepulchre, het Ensemble Vocal Aziliz.
